Muscles & Joints

Muscle and joint care was the foundation of the entire Absorbine brand, the first product under the brand was the world-renowned Veterinary Liniment - today known as Liquid or Gel Embrocation, which can be used when rinsing off the horse after training or applied topically to joints or muscles.

The horse is an athlete, and we often place great demands on the horse's physique when we ride it and want to start competitions. Therefore, the horse deserves the best so that it is physically capable of performing the tasks we set it. With the muscle liniments - Liquid and Gel Emborcation - from Absorbine   - we can help the horse a lot; both when it comes to sore muscles and joints and recovery after a hard workout. The horse can also be given a cooling bath in Cool Down, which contains various oils and extracts that stimulate blood circulation and help restore the fat balance in the horse's skin.

It all started with Absorbine   Veterinary Liniment

Before Absorbine   the brand was born, W. F. Young worked as a piano supplier and relied on the family's herd of horses; Mary Ida Young was an avid gardener and herbalist.

If a horse went lame back in 1892, it was a common practice of "blistering" - that is, blistering. The blistered skin would provide more blood supply to the leg, and the blood supply would promote the healing of the injury that may have caused the lameness. Mary Ida believed that there must surely be a better and more humane way to treat a lame horse.

Using her knowledge of healing herbs, she created a special blend of herbs and essential oils that became a tincture designed to promote blood flow and healing - without the pain of burns and blisters on the horse's skin.

Wilbur and Mary Ida began using this mixture on their own horses every day. They were so excited about the effect that they named the product Absorbine   Veterinary Liniment, and Wilbur started taking it with him on some of his deliveries. One day he had a trip to Syracuse, New York, where he sold an entire case to a racetrack. He wrote to Mary Ida on the way home: "I have had $42,80 worth of 'Absorbine' orders this month. Let the good work go on. Some day we will make this boom... Lovingly Yours, Wilbur."

Please note that Lquid and Gel Embrocation contain menthol, which has a 48-hour withdrawal period under DRF and FEI regulations. For competition days, you can use Cool Down instead.

Wraps for the horse's legs

Absorbine has developed the smart Bigeloil leg wraps, which you can use if your horse is injured and you need a cold or hot wrap. Bigeloil leg wraps is similar to a traditional poultice - you just avoid the mess. The design of Bigeloil leg wraps is unique; Absorbine   has put kaolin clay and epsom salt into a quilted paper material to hold it together and avoid residual clay on the horse's legs or your fingers. The wraps are soaked in cold or warm water for 20 seconds and can then be easily wrapped around the horse's legs.
