Approved leg protection for show jumping

All gaiters must be designed to wrap around the horse's leg naturally, easily and without force. This is especially true for gaiters that protect multiple sides of the horse's leg - they must be pre-shaped so that they naturally wrap around the leg. Gaiters must be no more than 20 cm high.

Hind leg gaiters may be single shell with protection only on the inside of the fetlocks and double shell with protection around the horse's legs.

Single shell

Single shell gaiters must have a maximum height of 20 cm at the highest point. Velcro closures may or may not be elastic, while stud closures must be elastic. The straps must have a minimum height of 5 cm for one strap and 2.5 cm per strap for two straps. Approved single shell gaiters: Woof Wear Pro Fetlock Boots and Professional's Choice Pro Performance Fetlock Boots.

Double shell

For "Double shell", the gaiters must be designed to wrap around the leg easily and naturally. Velcro and stud closure must be elastic and have a minimum height of 5 cm for one strap and 2.5 cm per strap for two straps. Maximum height of 20 cm at the highest point.
Approved Professional's Choice double shell gaiters: Pro Mesh TPU Boot(Front and Rear Legs), Pro Performance Stud/Hook Boot (Front and Rear Legs) and Pro Performance Velcro Boot(Front and Rear Legs).
Approved Woof Wear double shell gaiters: Smart Tendon and Fetlock Boots and Pro Tendon Boot.

All Velcro closures may have a horizontal or vertical safety strap that closes in addition to the strap around the leg.

Other approved closure mechanisms (not applicable to young horse events): Stud/hook, hook and straps split in two (any place the strap is in contact with the horse's leg, it must have a minimum height of 2.5 cm). All straps must lie smoothly on the horse's legs, they must not fold or become entangled.

Unauthorized closing mechanisms: retractors, buckles and ratchets. The strap must never go all the way around the gaiter/leg.

It is not allowed to put extra weight on the horse's gaiters, nor is it allowed to put anything in the lining of the gaiters or on the inside of the straps.
The inside of the gaiters that are in direct or indirect contact with the horse's leg must not be hard or rough. The lining of the gaiters must be soft and spongy. Lambskin lining is allowed and the use of bandages is permitted.

Leg protection for young horses

Especially for young horses, the fastening system must be non-elastic Velcro with a minimum height of 5 cm. For young horses, only hind leg gaiters with protection on the inside of the fetlock joint are allowed. The maximum height of the hind leg gaiters is 16 cm.
For young horses, elastic is not permitted and only Velcro fastening is allowed.
For competition on young horses, both Woof Wear Pro Fetlock Boots and Professional's Choice Pro Performance Fetlock Boots are permitted (cf. FEI Rules 2022).
