Western

Western sport is a very broad sport with many sub-disciplines. Examples include Reining, Western Horsemanship, Ranch Riding, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle and Showmanship. The most commonly known discipline in western sport is probably reining, which is also an FEI discipline.

All horses can go western riding, but the ones you see the most - especially if we're talking show - are the American Quarter Horse and the American Paint Horse. As the names suggest, both breeds originate from America, where they were originally bred as stock horses to work with cattle on the large ranches. The Quarter Horse was originally particularly good at running short distances and got its name because it was the fastest horse in a quarter mile - a quarter mile.

Although horses are still used on large cattle ranches in the United States, this is not very much the case in Denmark. The Quarter Horse is known in Denmark as a very versatile horse, and it is actually the most popular horse breed worldwide! The optimal quarter is harmonious, beautiful and distinctive with its well-developed and easily recognizable musculature. The horse has a small, fine and almost triangular head with small ears, a well-developed and wide jaw as well as large, beautiful eyes and a small, fine muzzle.

The Western sport is known for its large, heavy saddles with horns, beautiful equipment with silver and bling and characteristic clothing with cowboy hats, chaps and colorful blouses and shirts. For the Western horse, it is especially important to have a good saddle pad, as the Western saddle, unlike the jumping and dressage saddle, is not padded . The padding must therefore be embedded in the underlay, which is therefore thicker than the classic English underlay. Matrix has developed high-quality underlays with good pressure distribution and shock absorption. This is an advantage for both the horse and the rider, who are both spared the many shocks they are exposed to during riding, and can be of great importance for horses and riders who suffer from back pain.
