Ropehalters

The No. 1 training halter is a rope halter in heavy-duty and high quality!

The rope halter is a popular training tool for horsemanship and groundwork. A rope halter is typically tied in one piece of rope, so it is a solid tool with no weak points. The traditional rope halter has knots on either side of the nose, on either side of the jaws, one knot under the chin and one knot under the jaws, and is tied on the side of the head.

A rope halter is an effective training tool as it applies more precise pressure than a regular stable halter. The thinner the rope, the more pressure it applies. For the professional horse trainer, there are rope halters with extra knots on the nose - be aware that this type of rope halter with extra knots puts extra pressure on the horse's nose, so you should only use this type of rope halter if you are a professional and know that your horse will benefit from the extra strong rope halter.

The horse learns best when pressure disappears - this is also known as negative reinforcement; that discomfort ceases. With a rope halter, you can apply very precise pressure to the horse's neck and bridge of the nose. Pressure that can be removed just as quickly, rewarding the horse. Because a rope halter is made of strong material with no weak points, it won't jump like a stable halter, and you should never tie your horse in a rope halter without supervision. If the horse gets spooked and pulls or throws itself backwards, it can have serious consequences and cause major neck injuries.

Many people also enjoy riding in their rope halter, which requires a rope halter with reins. With a long horsemanship rope, you can easily tie the rope to the reins of the rope halter. Be aware that the horse must be used to the rope halter and know the signals that a rope halter gives, as you cannot guide horses in the same way through the reins if you ride in a rope halter with the reins tied underneath as you can with reins in a bit or a sidepull.
