EnduranceEndurance riding is a sport for all equestrians - any breed of horse can go the distance as long as the horse is in good shape. Distance riding can be compared to marathon for humans, where physical fitness and endurance are tested over a longer distance. The distance discipline is divided into levels according to length and speed. In the longer distances, the speed is free, while in the shorter distances you can be disqualified for riding too fast. You can start at any age, but children under the age of 14 are only allowed to start classes up to a certain level. Endurance riding places high demands on the physical fitness of the horse, as it has to cover between 40 km and 160 km, depending on the class. Therefore, the horse must also be checked by a veterinarian before the start of the competition; and on the longer distances there is also a vet check along the way. The vet examines the heart, lungs, stomach, hooves, legs, back and movement, and the horse must be cleared to start or continue on the course. All horse breeds can be used for distance, but it is typically the Arabian horse and Arabian mixes that perform best at the top level. 2 |
