Matrix western pad with Wool Back underside and wear leather for extra durability. The Matrix underlay is now known in western sports as one of the most shock-absorbing and pressure-distributing underlays - this is especially important when riding in a western saddle, as the western saddle itself is not padded like a dressage saddle, for example. Therefore, the horse needs a thick and cushioning pad to distribute the weight and pressure from both saddle and rider.

TheWool Back pad has a highly elastic underside that will last even after years of use. This natural Wool Back fleece can absorb up to 80% of its own weight in moisture, while the material is highly breathable and efficient at dissipating heat.

TheShim pad is a corrective pad. This means that you can adjust the pad to fit the horse's back and help the western saddle to lie correctly. A Matrix shim pad has three pockets on each side and comes with a total of 12 felt wedges that you can move around depending on the horse's needs - the pad can be built up so that the saddle can be lifted at the front, middle or back, depending on whether the horse lacks shoulder muscles, is hunchbacked or needs the saddle lifted at the back.

Maintenance:
You can also put your Matix pad in the washing machine, but remember to remove the inserts first! To extend the lifespan, always hang your pad so it can ventilate when not in use - this allows the material to dry if the horse has been sweating.

When Matrix material gets cold, it can become hard, so we recommend storing Matrix underlay and grooming at a minimum of 15⁰ C. The material is not damaged by low temperatures, so if it is not possible to store the products in a heated place, this is not a problem.

Matrix has developed the underlay and padding to provide the best shock absorption and pressure distribution. While riding, both horse and rider are exposed to many shocks that propagate through the back, which is extremely stressful. By minimizing these shocks, both the horse and rider's back can be spared, making a Matrix pad a good choice for both horse and rider prone to back pain.

All Matrix pads are ergonomically shaped to the horse's back - whether you need a dressage pad, a jumping pad or a western pad. For jumping and dressage horses, Matrix pads are also available as Half Pads, so you can add Matrix inserts to all your favorite pads.
