MB02 Flat Shank // MB02 Stangbid

Independent Side Movement

TheMB02 mouthpiece is anatomically shaped - the slight arch allows the horse to swallow. The MB02 has no gate, which means that the bit is tongue-less. The mouthpiece has a cylinder in the middle that prevents the bit from "collapsing" in the horse's mouth. Since the mouthpiece is tongue-free, the bit puts pressure on both the tongue and the loader, Myler however, the bit distributes the pressure more evenly over the tongue than the traditional two- or three-part snaffle bit.

This bit is suitable for the discipline:
  • Western
The Flat Shank bit is a bar bit with 7" flat bars that curve slightly backwards towards the horse. The ring at the top of the cheek piece of the snaffle has a flat top, allowing the bit and snaffle to work harmoniously together. To prevent the bars from irritating or cutting the horse's cheeks, the bars have a slight angle - make sure you get the bars and bit turned the right way around when applying the bar bit. The curb bit must be used with a curb strap or curb chain, otherwise it has no effect. The curb strap or curb chain is placed in the same ring as the bridle. With a curb bit with a curb strap or curb chain, there is a lot of pressure in the horse's mouth, under the chin and in the neck - this allows for nice and calm communication between horse and rider.

The horse at Level 1:

  • The horse is to be broken in or has just started breaking in.
  • The horse is about to or is learning the basics of gaits, transitions and obedience.
  • The horse has been ridden a bit, but is still learning basic signals.
  • The horse has a challenging temperament.

Independent Side Movement

Some of the Myler bits are equipped with so-called "Independent Side Movement". As the name suggests, this allows the rider to move each side of the bit independently of each other. This means that when the rider pulls on one rein, the horse gets a very clear signal as only one side moves. This provides effective shoulder control and bending of the horse.
