Myler Monday - Level 1

At Riding Equipment we hold "Myler Monday" every Monday, where you can learn more about the Myler system!

Level 1 is the lowest level in the Myler bite system - which level a bite is depends on the mouthpiece. Level 1 covers the mouthpieces MB01, MB02, MB03 and MB09, and is available with a number of different bit rings; for example, both as Kimberwick and Pelham; English D with/without hooks; loose rings; Baucher suspension; as a combination bit; Eggbutt muff bit and many more.

The horse at Level 1:

  • The horse is about to start or has just started showing.
  • The horse is about to or is learning the basics of gaits, transitions and obedience.
  • The horse has been ridden a bit, but is still learning basic signals.
  • The horse has a challenging temperament.

Level 1 bit:

  • The bit has an anatomically shaped mouthpiece with a slight arch that allows the horse to swallow.
  • The bit has no gate, so there is a low degree of tongue freedom.
  • Due to the lack of tongue freedom, the bit puts pressure on both tongue and loader; Myler the bit distributes the pressure more evenly over the tongue than the traditional two- or three-part bit.
